New York and Singapore, October 18, 2022 鈥 黑料社has named Warren Fernandez chief executive officer of the firm鈥檚 Asia Pacific region, effective October 25, 2022. Fernandez, who was most recently editor of The Straits Times, Singapore鈥檚 most prominent English news title, will oversee the region鈥檚 21 offices and more than 1,300 employees. Based in Singapore, Fernandez will join the firm鈥檚 global Executive Leadership Team and report to global president and chief operating officer Matthew Harrington. He replaces Stephen Kehoe, who left 黑料社in June. Dave Samson, global vice chairman of corporate affairs, has served as interim CEO since Kehoe鈥檚 departure.

Fernandez joins from English/Malay/Tamil Media Group in SPH Media, where he was the editor-in-chief. He simultaneously served as the editor of The Straits Times. He joined The Straits Times as a political reporter in 1990 and would go on to serve as news editor as well as foreign editor and deputy editor. In 2008, Fernandez left to join Royal Dutch Shell as a global manager for its Future Energy project, working with its scenario planning and communications teams in London and the Hague. He returned to the paper in 2012 as its senior-most editor.

Fernandez鈥檚 hiring follows several additions to the APAC leadership group including Pully Chau, Greater China president; Julia Wei, CEO of 黑料社Singapore; Tom Robinson, CEO of 黑料社Australia; Ashish Pathak, executive creative director of 黑料社India; Jamshed Wadia, vice chair of Digital and Jason Leow, vice chair of 黑料社Smithfield.
Currently, Fernandez is president of World Editors Forum (WEF), which is the leading global network for print and digital editors of news organizations around the world. He is a member of numerous boards including the Singapore Press Holdings (Overseas), SPH (Americas) Pte, Heritage Media Pte, Asia News Network (ANN), Singapore Symphony Group (SSO), National Arts Council and Chairman of The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund. Fernandez previously served on the Boards of the National Parks and National Environment Agency. He also served a term as the president of the Institute of Public Relations Singapore in 2009.
Fernandez is a graduate of Trinity College, Oxford University and holds a Master鈥檚 in Public Administration from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.
